The Bookworm Bus was born from a conversation discussing how to best meet the growing reading needs of Royal ISD and surrounding communities. The birth of a state-of-the-art mobile library and homework lab for Waller and surrounding counties. Barriers created by poverty, limited opportunities, limited English, and lack of transportation are alleviated by taking library programs, resources, and services directly to neighborhoods and schools. Our goal is to serve and touch the lives throughout the community with access to books.

Inspiration comes from Mary Lemist Titcomb who is credited with the first bookmobile at the turn of the 20th century. She is quoted, “Would not a library wagon, the outward and visible signs of the service for which the library stood, do much more in cementing friendship…No better method has ever been devised for reaching the dweller in the country. The book goes to the man, not waiting for the man to come to the book.” [Wikipedia en.m.wikipedia.org]. Her determination and desire to fill the need and build relationships has come full circle with the launch of The Bookworm Bus. Allowing us the opportunity to be the hands and feet in advocating 1 child not learning how to read is ONE child too many. Oh, the places we will journey in building an educated future.
In October 2021, The Bookworm Bus and Eyes On Me, Inc., a 501(c)(3) joined forces to expand our reach by committing to building fellowship and lasting friendships and programs to bring God’s light and love into the communities we serve.
